Lea Chan
HK & Macau Region Steinway Piano Brand Manager | Music Educator | Piano Performer

Background Overview
Chen returned to Hong Kong from Germany in 2022, and innovatively integrated the dual professional identities of Steinway & Sons brand management and piano education in Hong Kong and Macau. This unique cross-border positioning has led to a virtuous circle: as a Steinway brand manager, she provides students with industry resources such as international competition information and artist master classes; with her profound teaching experience and performance background, she can accurately connect performers with market needs in planning concerts and piano auditions. This dual perspective of "educator-practitioner" has built a professional bridge for the development of piano education in Hong Kong and the promotion of high-end musical instrument culture.
Academic Background
As a pianist with an international academic background, Chen received a systematic education in the United States. She studied at New York University, the New England Conservatory of Music, and the Mannes College of Music, where she eventually received a master's degree and an honorary bachelor's degree in piano performance. In her ten years of exploration, she established a performance style that combines profound academic content with rich artistic expression.
Mentorship and Skills
Chen's piano skills are rooted in a diverse teacher-student relationship: she is a student of Eduardus Halim, the last descendant of the legendary Horowitz School, and has inherited the elegant touch tradition of the Romantic piano. She studied Beethoven's sonatas in depth with Victor Rosenbaum at the New England Conservatory of Music, and through systematic training from Professor Zuo Yin and Teacher Li Siying at the Central Conservatory of Music and Xinghai Conservatory of Music, she has integrated the delicate tone control of the Chinese piano school into her personal playing style. She has received rave reviews in many master courses, which recognize her professional qualities of "scholar-type performance thinking".
Teaching experience
During her time at NYU, Chen cultivated the musical interests and qualities of many undergraduates, guiding them to excel in piano exams and gaining many performance opportunities. Her teaching philosophy focuses on the combination of score text analysis and performance practice, a philosophy she continued in her chamber music instruction at the Macau University of Science and Technology, which led to the student orchestra’s well-received performances on campus.
Publishing and Translation
As the first full-time foreign employee of the German G. Henle Publishing House, Chen is responsible for the promotion of the Munich headquarters in the Asian market, and serves as the translation editor of the anniversary edition and many publications. She is also responsible for the editing of the basic teaching materials and examination courses of the People's Music Publishing House, updating the fingering, and providing translation manuscripts for the "Piano Art Magazine". Her learning and work experience have enabled her to have good Chinese, English and basic German skills, and at the same time have both the ability to understand European and American music and a solid foundation in Asian music.
Professional Honors
Chen's musical talent and work ability have been highly praised by Master Lang Lang, who called her "a rare young person who has both solid music knowledge and management skills!" In addition, her resume has also been valued by the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University, who invited her as a guest speaker to give a lecture on "Music Career" to music students on campus.
